Julia Gosling scored to put the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team up 2-1 and
Aly McLeod tallied an empty netter for the eventual game winner, as the Saints topped No. 8 Quinnipiac 3-2 in game two of the ECAC Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon in Hamden, Connecticut.
With the win, St. Lawrence improved to 17-18-3, while Quinnipiac fell to 28-8-0.
The Saints got called for an early slashing penalty, just 32 seconds into the first period, and the Bobcats capitalized on a five-hole goal from Lexie Adzija eight seconds into the advantage.
Despite the Bobcats' lead, after the first period, the Saints held an 8-6 edge in shots on goal.
Just 52 seconds into the second period, the Saints would find the equalizer.
Melissa Jefferies sent the puck up ice to
Shailynn Snow in the neutral zone, Snow sent a beautiful back-door pass through the legs of a Quinnipiac defender for
Taylor Lum, who tied it up five hole.
After two periods of play, St. Lawrence continued to lead in shots on goal, 27-14.
The Saints continued to apply pressure, spending the latter half of the second and the beginning of the third in the Bobcats' zone.
Abby Hustler nearly put the Saints up by one with a wrap-around chance with just over 10 minutes to play in the third.
But it was Gosling that would give the Scarlet and Brown the go-ahead opportunity with a blast from the left circle to put the Saints up 2-1 on the power play with 8:21 to go, scoring her 20th of the season. Hustler assisted on the play.
At the 18:36 mark, the Bobcats pulled goaltender Logan Angers for the extra attacker and just three seconds later,
Aly McLeod would score her 11th of the season and the game winner.
Quinnipiac pulled Angers for a second time with 1:02 to play.
This time the Bobcat's capitalized, as Adzija scored her second of the game and brought it back within one with 40.9 seconds to go.
St. Lawrence held on for the final remaining seconds for the 3-2 win.
"Another great game vs. Quinnipiac," said head coach
Chris Wells. "We seem to bring it out in each other. They were able to execute one more time last night and we did today. Both teams are laying it out there every shift. It is fun to watch them compete for every puck. We scored a huge goal on the power play and even though they scored on a power play, I felt our penalty kill was really good tonight."

"It should be a busy Sunday for Saints' sports tomorrow," Wells added. "Good luck to men's basketball in their quest for the Liberty League Championship!"
Morgan finished with 22 saves, while Angers made 32 for the Bobcats.
The Saints finished with a 63-47 advantage in shots, including 35-24 in shots on goal. Both teams finished 1-for-3 on the power play.
With the series split at 1-1, the Saints and the Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for game three at 3 p.m.
