Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Gosling Scores, No. 8 Bobcats Top Saints in Game-Three Overtime

Sadie Peart scored three minutes and five seconds into overtime to lift the No. 8 Quinnipiac Bobcats to a 2-1 overtime win over the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team in game three of the ECAC Quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon in Hamden, Connecticut.

Despite the result, the Saints were first to the scoreboard on Sunday.

Abby Hustler sent the puck to Shailynn Snow in the slot from the right corner and Snow's initial shot was saved, but Julia Gosling corralled the rebound with her back hand for the 1-0 lead with 8:28 to play in the first. Gosling's goal was her 21st of the season.

After one period, Quinnipiac led 11-8 in shots on goal.

The second period was full of faced-paced back-and-forth action but remained scoreless. The Saints carried their 1-0 lead into the third period, but the Bobcats continued to lead in shots on goal, 22-20.

At the 12:55 mark of the third period, the Bobcats' Olivia Mobley was called for interference.

Just before the penalty would expire, Kate Reilly picked up a turnover in the neutral zone and beat Saints' goaltender Lucy Morgan for the short-handed tally to tie the game 1-1.

Two and a half minutes later the Bobcat's Lexie Adzija looked to put Quinnipiac up by one, she scored, but after a challenge and review, the goal was called off for goaltender interference.

Both teams produced solid scoring opportunities in the final minutes of the third period, but the scored remained tied and would go to overtime.

Peart capitalized early in the overtime frame, as she picked up a loose puck in the slot and beat Lucy Morgan blocker side to tally the overtime winner.

"As predicted another close exciting game to finish off the series," said head coach Chris Wells. "After the initial sting wears off we will be able to look back at this season and see how much we grew as a team. Obviously playing our best hockey, and as good as anyone in the league, the last three weeks certainly gives us some momentum moving forward."

"The clock ran out on this squad too soon," Wells added. "We all felt like we are just getting going. Great efforts from a lot of players all season and watching the team improve and come together as a group is what makes this job so rewarding. Once again this team did that and will be able to remember this season with a smile."

Morgan made 31 saves for the Saints, while Quinnipiac's Logan Angers made 24.

The Bobcats finished with a 72-48 advantage in shots, including 33-25 in shots on goal, while the Saints blocked 24 shots to Quinnipiac's 16.

St. Lawrence wrapped up the season 17-19-3, while Quinnipiac improved to 29-8-0 and will move on to the ECAC Semifinals next weekend.
