Olivia Middleton scored 20 points as the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team lost 64-57 on Union's senior day and will face RPI in the first round of the Liberty League playoffs on February 21st.
The senior hit a pair of triples and grabbed five rebounds in her final regular season game. The Saints' other senior,
Olivia Barringer, had 11 rebounds and eight points on 3-5 shooting.
The Scarlet and Brown led by three going into the final quarter, but the Dutchwomen scored 10 straight points over the first three and a half minutes to lead 48-41 and get their first lead since the second quarter.
Kristen Varin hit a three to stop the run, but the hosts answered with seven straight and led by double figures.
Katie Chisholm hit a pair of late buckets, but the comeback fell short and Union won 64-57.
"I think we spent much of our energy, physical and mental, in yesterday's game," said head coach
Dan Roiger. "We looked spent today and just couldn't make a basket and it became disheartening to our young team. We have a quick turnaround and look forward to our playoff game with excitement."
Megan Lee had 15 points to lead Union, and Kennedy Clark and Olivia Pachla finished with 14 and 12, respectively.
Union shot 75-percent from the floor in the fourth quarter, while St. Lawrence hit 31-percent.
St. Lawrence out-rebounded the Dutchwomen 47-43, but the hosts protected ball better and had four fewer turnovers.
The Saints fell to 13-11 on the season and 9-9 in the league, and will face RPI on Tuesday in Troy, N.Y. and the winner will face Skidmore on Friday in the semifinals. Union improved to 10-14 and 8-10 in the league to play on the road at Vassar.
