Saints Fall in Overtime in First-Round of Playoffs

The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team fell in overtime to RPI 76-71 on Tuesday night in Troy, N.Y. in the first round of the Liberty League playoffs. Senior Olivia Barringer had her third double-double of the season, and first-year Caelan McHarney had her first career double-double to lead the Saints.

Barringer capped her career shooting 6-8 from the floor and finished with 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. McHarney finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs. The first-year shot 7-8 from the free throw line while distributing three assists and came up with two steals.

The teams traded blows all game, neither led by more than seven, but a nine-point run in overtime put the game away for the hosts.

"Today was a reflection of our season," said head coach Dan Roiger. "We had a number of games that we needed to make one play in a key moment at the end of the game and just couldn't make it. But give RPI credit, they shot the ball incredibly well from the arc tonight and in the end, they needed every one to beat us. I'm really proud of the effort our young team gave to fight in a playoff atmosphere."

Heather Converse led the Engineers with 19 points. Brielle Sharry, Nicole DaPra, and Lolo Reynolds also finished with double figures.

Shannon Rhone finished went 5-7 from the floor and finished with a dozen points, and Hannah Van Dyke connected on three triples on his way to 11 points.

The Saints outrebounded RPI, grabbing 37 to their 32, but the Engineers had seven fewer turnovers.

The Saints end their season 13-12 and 9-9 in the conference. With the win RPI improved to 14-12 on the season and move on to face top seed Ithaca on Friday night in Ithaca, N.Y.
