Eleven members of the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team came away with points, as the Scarlet and Brown defeated Dartmouth 7-3 on Friday afternoon in Hanover, N.H.
With the win, the Saints improved to 14-17-3 on the season and 8-9-3 in ECAC play, while Dartmouth fell to 7-19-0 and 3-16-0.
St. Lawrence applied early pressure in the Dartmouth zone, leading with a quick 5-1 edge in shots on goal, but the Big Green scored first, as CC Bowlby beat Morgan on the rebound for the 1-0 advantage midway through the first. Â
Bowlby's goal was the lone goal of the first frame and the Big Green held a 13-10 edge in shots on goal after one.
At the 6:49 mark of the second period,
Anna Segedi was sent to the box on a slashing call.
But
Julia Gosling would get the momentum rolling for the Saints, as she stole the puck in the neutral zone, skated in on a breakaway and beat Big Green goaltender Maggie Emerson glove side to bring the game back within one with a shorthanded tally.
Just over two minutes later,
Shailynn Snow netted the equalizer with a deflection off the original shot from
Abby Hustler, making it 2-2 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the second.
Gosling struck with her second of the game, with a wrap around on the doorstep off a beautiful pass from behind the goal line by Segedi.
Next up was
Taylor Lum, who made it 4-2 in favor of the Saints. Lum skated in from the left side and tossed a quick backhanded shot in for her fifth of the season.
Kristina Bahl andÂ
Chloé Puddifant assisted on the play.
The Saints fifth of the afternoon came off the stick of
Gabi Jones. Fresh off the bench Jones caught a cross-ice pass from
Kennedy Wilson for her second of the year.
Hustler scored her 15th of the year and her eighth goal in 11 games to make it 6-2, and
Rachel Bjorgan capitalized on a nice tic-tac-toe passing play beating Dartmouth's Elle Sullivan for the Saints' seventh unanswered goal of the afternoon. Wilson and Puddifant both recorded their second assists of the day on Bjorgan's goal.
CC Bowlby capped the scoring with her second of the day, making the final 7-3.
"We got off to a great start and couldn't capitalize in the first 10 minutes," said head coach
Chris Wells. "Dartmouth converted on their power play and battled hard for their second goal to get to 2-0."
Â
"I guess we are better when we get behind lately as that seemed to generate some energy. Julia had a shorthanded individual effort to get us going and pucks started bouncing our way and we converted on some nice plays. It was nice to see some players score who have been working hard and the team will get a well-deserved weekend off and enjoy the win!"
Â
Morgan finished with 20 saves for the Scarlet and Brown, while
Emma-Sofie Nordström made seven. Emerson finished with 23 for the Big Green, while Sullivan made four in her relief effort.
Â
The Saints finished with a 34-30 edge in shots on goal. St. Lawrence finished 0-for-1 on the power play, as Dartmouth finished 0-for-2.
Â
St. Lawrence will return home to Appleton Arena to host Quinnipiac and Princeton in their final weekend of the regular season. The Saints will honor St. Lawrence women's hockey Olympians on Friday night and the Class of 2023 for Senior Day on Saturday. Puck drops are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
