Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

No. 8 Saints Edged by Harvard in Overtime

Gwynn Lapp scored with 44.4 seconds left in overtime and Harvard's Alex Pellicci made 52 saves, as the Crimson defeated the No. 8 St. Lawrence University women's hockey team 1-0 on Friday night in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Julia Gosling finished with a team-high 13 shots, while Abby Hustler recorded seven and Mae Batherson finished with six.

After the first period of play, the Saints held a 15-4 advantage in shots on goal and both teams got a chance on the power play, but the score remained deadlocked at 0-0.

The Saints continued to apply pressure in the second period, outshooting the Crimson 33-10 by the end of the frame, but Pellicci remained strong between the pipes.

Neither team was able to capitalize in the third, as the stalemate continued, forcing overtime.

The Saints controlled the early part of the extra period, with the first two shots coming off the stick of Gosling, but the Crimson finished strong, as Gwynn Lapp picked up the puck in the neutral zone, skated in 1-on-1 with Emma-Sofie Nordström, who sprawled out to make the save, but was beat by a low shot from Lapp for the overtime game winner.

"For the third game in a row versus us Pellicci was fabulous," said head coach Chris Wells. "I think she has over 150 saves in our last three games against Harvard."

"We gave everything we had tonight," Wells added. "Unfortunately this is the way it goes sometimes in this game, as frustrating as it can be. Our players are resilient and we will be ready to bounce back tomorrow at Dartmouth."

Nordström finished with 18 saves, while Pellicci made 52 for Harvard.

St. Lawrence outshot Harvard 96-38, including 52-19 in shots on goal.

With the loss, the Scarlet and Brown fell to 12-6-0 and suffered their first conference loss at 6-1-0, while Harvard improved to 2-11-1 and 1-8-1.

The Saints will make the trip up to Hanover, New Hampshire to take on Dartmouth tomorrow, December 2 at 3 p.m.
