Jackson Tewksbury and
Shea Goodwin each recorded a touchdown, but a strong second half powered the 15th-ranked Ithaca Bombers to a 51-14 win over the St. Lawrence University football team on senior day, Saturday November 4 at Leckonby Stadium.
Saints' quarterback
Will Lederman was 17-for-27 for 134 yards and one touchdown, while Tewksbury led the ground game with 60 yards and
Cole Salyards finished with four catches for 38 yards.
Owen O'Brien led the defense with 11 tackles, while
Ryan Surhoff finished with nine and
Grady Harrington finished with an interception and three broken up passes.
The Bombers were first on the board, as Jalen Leonard-Osbourne scored on an 8-yard run with 4:59 left to play in the first quarter. Derek Balwin's kick was no good, leaving Ithaca with a six-point lead.
With 1:37 remaining in the first, Tewksbury scored his first collegiate touchdown with an impressive 53-yard run, and
Clayton Fogler's first kick of the day was good, to give the Saints a 7-6 lead after the first frame.
Early in the second quarter, Leonard-Osbourne scored his second touchdown of the game capping a 75-yard drive with an 18-yard run, putting Ithaca back in the lead 16-7.
The Bombers defense held the Saints scoreless in the second quarter, but the Saints defense only allowed a field goal before the first half clock expired, with Ithaca in the lead 16-7.
Ithaca scored twice in the third, with touchdown's ran in by Colin Schumm and Jalen Hines to bring the lead to 30-7, but the Saints would cut into the lead early in the fourth, as Lederman connected with
Shea Goodwin with a 10-yard catch. Fogler's second kick was good, making the scoreboard 30-14 with 12:20 to play in the final quarter.
The Bombers scored three touchdowns to close out the fourth, including an 18-yard pick six to close out scoring with a final score of 51-14.
Schumm was 14-for-26 passing for 151 yards, while Leonard-Osborne recorded 99 yards on the run and two touchdowns and Sam Kline caught four passes for 65 yards. Jake Connelly and Jonathan Koumas each recorded eight tackles, including one for the loss.
Ithaca finished with a 21-15 advantage in first downs and tallied 412 yards on total offense to the Saints' 226. The Bombers converted on 8-of-14 third-down opportunities, while the Saints finished 5-for-14.
Prior to today's game, the Saints honored the 21 members of the Class of 2024, including 18 players and three student managers.
St. Lawrence will head to Buffalo State for their final game of the season on Saturday, November 11. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
