Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Top-Ranked Buckeyes Shutout No. 6 Saints

The No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes used seven goals in the second period to power themselves to a 11-0 win over the No. 6 St. Lawrence University women's hockey team on Friday night in Columbus, Ohio.

At. 4:36 of the first period, Lauren Bernard got the scoring started for the Buckeyes, as she beat Saints' goaltender Emma-Sofie Nordström glove side for the 1-0 lead.

After one period of play, Ohio State held a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal.

In a second-period flurry, Ohio State scored seven straight goals to take a 8-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

After the fourth Buckeyes' goal, the Saints pulled Nordström, and sent in Kassidy Lawrence.

Jocelyn Amos tallied back-to-back goals in the third, adding a ninth and 10th goal for the Buckeyes. Joy Dunne then made it 11-0 with 4:54 remaining in the third period, beating Lawrence five hole, to cap the scoring.

"I certainly didn't have us prepared to play tonight," said head coach Chris Wells. "Ohio State is not only a very talented team, but they are one of the hardest working teams in the country."

Nordström finished with 12 saves, while Lawrence made a career-high 18 and Raygan Kirk made 15 for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State finished with a 41-15 advantage in shots on goal and 81-31 in total attempts. Neither team was able to capitalize on their power play opportunities.

"Ironically enough through two periods we had some very good scoring chances that we didn't capitalize on," Wells added. "Our team played until the end and we will be back tomorrow to play again."

With the loss, the Saints fell to 12-4-0, while Ohio State improved to 12-1-0.

The Saints and the Buckeyes will meet again tomorrow at 3 p.m.
