Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Saints Start Strong, Fall to Springfield in Vermont

The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team will still be looking for their first win of the season, as they dropped a 76-52 to Springfield at a neutral site game in Middlebury, Vt. Friday evening.

The Saints, who were led by Abby Doin's team-high 11 points, ultimately fell victim to Springfield scoring 33 points off turnovers, which helped them to a double-digit victory. St. Lawrence's non-conference record drops to 0-3.

Springfield received offense from multiple parts of the lineup, seeing four of their players put up double digit points. Both Rachel Vinton and Lindsay Laughlan had 20 points, tied for a team lead in that category.

First-year Elizabeth Flynn also had a notable day on the stat sheet with five rebounds, leading her team in that category. She had six points in the game.

While Springfield had control over the game's second half, that wasn't the case early on. St. Lawrence got off to a hot start early in the game, going up 8-3 through early offense on back-to-back three-balls from Doin, followed by a deuce from Margaret Dougher.

Springfield was strong in the second quarter, however, outscoring St. Lawrence 24-5 in the second which put them in the driver's seat for the remainder of the game.

The Saints outshot their opponents from beyond the arc, going 7-for-27 for a 25.9 per cent three point shooting percentage, compared to Springfield's 22.2.

It's a quick turnaround for the Scarlet and Brown, as they return to the court in Middlebury, Vt. Saturday afternoon to play Framingham State at 1 p.m.
