Junior
Max Mogul and senior captain
Sam Pijpers were able to score first half goals, both off assists from
Henry Brown, but a second half equalizer from the opposition sent the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team to a 2-2 tie with Plattsburgh State on Wednesday night.
St. Lawrence moved to 7-4-4 on the year with the tie, while the Cardinals moved to 7-3-6.
Plattsburgh struck first in the matchup, getting a tally in the 20th minute. John Hayes was able to get free from the Saints defense and score an unassisted goal to give his team the 1-0 lead.
The Scarlet and Brown would waste little time getting the game back to a tie as the connection of Brown and
Owen Lillis would find Mogul free in the Cardinal box. The junior forward would fire the shot past the keeper to tie up the game.
St Lawrence would then take the lead 17 minutes later in the half to give the Saints a 2-1 lead going into the half. Brown, who has been red-hot the last week and a half, earned his second assist of the night as he found Pijpers, who would slide a shot past the goalkeeper to take the 2-0 lead.
In the second half, the Saints were able to continue applying pressure getting good looks from
Henry Hart,
Ryan Campbell,
Ben Lee and
Griffin MacGillivray. MacGillivray's shot was the lone effort to find the goal as Teddy Healy made the save.
The Cardinals were able to counter-punch and would eventually knot up the game. Plattsburgh's John Hayes scored his second goal of the game at 74:34 to tie the contest at 2-2.
Plattsburgh would tally the only shot the rest of the way but was stopped by
George Charalambous, who made the start in the woodwork.
Charalambous would make seven saves in the tie, while Healy made four for the Cardinals.
St. Lawrence will head home and get ready for their last game of the regular season on Saturday when the team takes on Hobart on the road.
