Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Snode Pitches Fifth Shutout in 0-0 Tie With Skidmore

Senior Keely Snode picked up her fifth clean sheet of the season and 13th solo shutout of her career as the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw against Skidmore at Wachenheim Field in Saratoga Springs, on Saturday.

St. Lawrence moved to 7-4-4 with the tie and 3-2-2 in Liberty League play, while the Thoroughbreds went to 5-4-5 on the year and 0-4-3 in league play.

The Saints currently sit in the fourth-place spot in the league standings with 11 points. The Scarlet and Brown trail Ithaca for third by five points and are two points ahead of Vassar and Clarkson.

"We played hard, and we were proud of the team for being relentless during moments when Skidmore looked like the better team." Said head coach Sinead McSharry. "It's a good, gritty performance that builds character for the next set of games."

Snode stood tall in the Scarlet and Brown woodwork in the first half facing three Skidmore shots on goal. The senior stymied all three efforts to keep the Thoroughbreds off the board. Later in the half it was the Saints' turn to apply pressure. Zoe Rogan had the first good look, but was stopped by Claire Wolgast, then Mia Cence saw her shot ring off the post as the game went to half.

Cence kept firing for St. Lawrence in the second half getting two more shots off. Her first effort was a header that sailed wide, while her second effort found the goal but was turned away.

After hitting a post of their own Skidmore had to go into defense mode but were unable to stop Emma Casey from getting one last shot on goal in the final minute. Wolgast preserved her own clean sheet and a league point with the save.

Snode stopped six saves in the game, while Wolgast stopped five shots in the home goal. Snode's 13 career clean sheets along with her seven combined shutouts brings her career total to 16.5. The senior is now 1.5 shutouts shy of a tie for sixth in the record books with Lisa Sher '91, and Kerry McCann '87. Snode's career .94 goals against average currently ranks her fifth in program history.

The Scarlet and Brown will head to Sandy MacAllaster for their final two games of the regular season. Their road to the playoffs for the first time since 2019 will continue Wednesday when the Saints welcome Clarkson to Canton for a matchup with massive playoff implications. The team will then play their final game of the regular season next Saturday against William Smith, where the program will honor the Class of 2024.
