Barton Puts Up Three Points in Women's Soccer's 3-0 Win at Utica

Sophomore forward Kaitlyn Barton provided a goal and an assist off the bench as the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team secured a 3-0 win on the road against Utica on Wednesday afternoon.

The Scarlet and Brown improved to 7-4-3 on the year with the win, while the Pioneers fell to 7-5-3.

"I'm pleased for our group," said Sinead McSharry "Our game-changers did really well and everyone stepped it up in the second half."

Utica came out of the gates firing four shots in the opening 12 minutes. Only one found the St. Lawrence net however and Keely Snode was up to the task. However, in the 23rd minute, the Saints would counter as Emma Reynolds got free and struck a shot off the post.

Mia Cence started the first scoring play of the game in the 43rd minute sending the ball up the pitch where it was dished to the left wing. From the left side, the ball was played in towards the middle where Barrett Freeman would skip it further to Barton. The sophomore's right-footed strike would go off a Utica defender and in to give the Saints the lead at the halfway mark.

The Scarlet and Brown would continue the pressure as Grace Mochnal got two shots onto the Pioneer goal as did Madison King-Thurber. Utica's Courtney Connolly would keep her squad in the game making the three stops.

Barton would have a big hand on the second goal later in the game as in the 64th minute the Saints would double their lead. The ball was on the left side once again where Sydney Keenan sent a pass in to Barton, who dished off to Lilly Stone. Stone wouldn't even settle the ball as she sent a shot past the outstretched arms of the keeper making it 2-0.

In the final 80 seconds of the game, Zoe Rogan would score her fourth goal of the season in spectacular fashion as following a foul, she fired a left-footed free kick from over 20 yards out and over the hands of the goalkeeper to put the game on ice. Rogan now has a team-high nine points on four goals and an assist in her first year in Scarlet and Brown.

Snode would play the opening 70:40 of the game for the Saints making four saves, while Darcie McDonough stopped two shots in 19:20 to earn the combined shutout. The goalkeepers have combined for three clean sheets this season and seven total dating back to the 2021 season. Snode has 12 career clean sheets and now seven combined shutouts bringing her career total to 15.5.

St. Lawrence will play their final regular season road contest this weekend when the team travels to Skidmore to take on the Thoroughbreds in a 3:00 p.m. match.
