Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

No. 11 Saints Rebound With Shutout Win Against No. 12 UVM

Katina Duscio scored her first goal of the season and Abby Hustler notched a pair of goals to lead the No. 11 St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 3-0 rebound win over the 12th-ranked Vermont Catamounts on Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena.

The Saints improved to 5-1-0 on the season and split the 2023-24 series with the Catamounts, while Vermont fell to 1-2-1.

The first period remained scoreless, as the Saints finished with a 7-4 shot advantage over Vermont.

Duscio, who put the Saints on the board with her first of the season, picked up the puck at the blue line and blasted a low shot past Catamounts' goaltender Jessie McPherson for the 1-0 lead.

Hustler would score her first of the game at 9:06 of the second, putting St. Lawrence up 2-0. The original shot from Segedi produced a rebound, which was corralled by Aly McLeod and sent five hole by Hustler for the power-play tally.

Hustler tacked on her second of the game with a one timer to the top left corner off the feed from Segedi, who notched her second assist of the game.

After two periods, the Saints held a 20-9 advantage in shots.

Saints' goaltender Emma-Sofie Nordström made 11 of her 20 saves to preserve her second shutout of the season and the win for the Saints.

"This was a nice bounce back game for us," said head coach Chris Wells. "We saw a lot of our effort get rewarded today with some nice goals. Vermont did a great job in transition and blocking shots again today. We got a nice bounce off their player for our first goal and that gave us some good energy."

Nordström recorded the win with 20 saves, while McPherson made 26 for the Catamounts.

St. Lawrence finished with a 29-20 edge in shots.

"We played hard all game and we finished the weekend with a solid result," Wells added.

The Saints will continue their lengthy home stretch with a Thursday night tilt against the RIT Tigers on October 19th. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m.
