Henry Brown scored his first two collegiate goals, and senior captain
Michael McDougald posted the game-winning goal along with an assist as the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team raced to a 5-0 win over Bard on Saturday afternoon in Annandale-on-Hudson.
St. Lawrence improved to 6-4-2 win the win and 4-2-0 in the Liberty League, while the Raptors fell to 5-5-2 and 0-5-2 in league play.
The first goal of the game came in the 11th minute when senior
Sam Pijpers made a pass to
Max Mogul, who sent a long cross deep into the Bard defensive box. A Raptor defender got a head on the ball but it bounced right to McDougald, who buried it in the upper right corner to give the Saints the 1-0 lead.
The lead would double less than eight minutes later when a Saints' corner kick from McDougald went off a defender once again. The ball bounced out right to
Dennis Argueta, who rifled a shot to the upper left corner to put the Saints up 2-0 and give the newcomer his first career goal and point.
The Scarlet and Brown would get back to work in the second half with their third goal at the 55:09 mark.
Owen Lillis started the play with a shot on goal that was stopped by the Bard goalkeeper. The rebound fell right to the foot of Brown, who scored to make it a three-goal game.
Brown's second career tally wasn't far behind as three minutes later a long pass from
Eric Edmonds found Brown, who took on a defender and the keeper before tapping home the goal on the unattended frame.
The Saints saw another pair of career firsts in their fifth goal as
Aidan Fauth would tally his first collegiate goal to put the team up 5-0.
Griffin MacGillivray earned his first career point on the play with the assist.
Ben Woelfinger made seven saves to earn his sixth clean sheet of the season. The shutout was the 23rd for the goalkeeper, who is now tied with Brendan Murphy '02 four fourth in Saints history. Woelfinger also reached third all-time in career saves at 290.
The Scarlet and Brown will head home and begin gearing up for their final two home games of the regular season next week. On Wednesday, the Saints welcome Union to Canton for a 4:00 p.m. match before taking on Skidmore in a Liberty League Championship rematch on senior night Saturday.
