Lily Pleau scored her first collegiate goal and senior goalkeeper
Keely Snode recorded her fourth shutout of the season to lead the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Vassar on Friday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.
After a bit of a back-and-forth battle to start, the Saints peppered the Vassar goal with three shots in a row, but Teresa Zimmer came up with all three saves.
In the 22nd minute of play,
Sydney Keenan carried the ball into the zone, beating out multiple Vassar defenders and found Pleau, who planted a low shot past Zimmer for the lone goal of the afternoon and the game winner.
The Brewers applied heavy pressure in the second half, tallying 10 of their 17 shots, but the Saints' defense held strong and never allowed the Brewers to find the equalizer.
"We're so proud of this team," said head coach
Sinead McSharry. "They paid attention to the details and brought pieces from the training field that had major impact on the game. We had a lot of North Country pride in this game and it showed."
Snode finished with two saves and recorded her fourth clean sheet of the season and the 12th of her career, while Zimmer finished with five saves for Vassar.
The Brewers outshot the Saints 17-9, but the Saints held a 6-2 edge in shots on goal.
With the win, the Saints improved to 5-4-3 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play, while Vassar fell to 7-3-2 and 1-1-2, respectively.
The Saints will be back in action when they host Bard at 2 p.m., tomorrow, October 14.
