Saints Complete Sweep in Route 11 Rivalry

Seniors Olivia Middleton and Olivia Barringer each scored a baker's dozen to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 74-47 win against North Country neighbor Clarkson on Tuesday evening in Burkman Gymnasium.

Barringer shot an efficient 6-7 from the floor and also grabbed 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Forwards Cam Roberts and Mason Baker-Schlendering each had eight points, with Baker-Schlendering, a first-year, shot a perfect 4-4.

The Golden Knights hit a layup midway through the opening quarter to lead 11-10, but the Saints scored the next eight, and never trailed for the rest of the game. They closed the first half with a jumper from Abby Doin sandwiched by layups from Kristen Varin and Middleton to lead 37-22.

The lead was extended to 21 during the third quarter, and as much as 28 in the last four minutes and the final score read 74-47.


"Nice win for the Saints tonight," said head coach Dan Roiger, "a complete team effort. We have some weaknesses we've been addressing in practice, and we demonstrated good improvement in those areas today. A good growth curve for our team."

Elaina Porter had 13 to lead Clarkson, while Bella Doyle also finished with double digits, scoring 12.

St. Lawrence shot 46-percent from the floor while holding the guests to under 30-percent.

The Saints had 22 second-chance points off 20 offensive rebounds to Clarkson's four points off five offensive rebounds. 39 of the Scarlet and Browns points came from the bench, and 42 points were scored in the paint, compared to the Golden Knight's 14.

St. Lawrence improves to 10-7 and 7-5 in the league and has sole possession of fourth place with six league contests remaining. Clarkson fell to 7-10 and is in a three-way tie for sixth place with a 4-8 conference record.

The Saints are home again this weekend. They host William Smith on February 3rd at 5:30 p.m. and RIT on the 4th at 2 p.m.
