Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Saints Hit 16 Shots From Deep, Top Herons 82-59

The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team shot 55-percent from deep and 51-percent from the floor as they completed the season sweep over William Smith on Friday night in Burkman Gymnaisum.

Jackie Malley hit five three pointers on her way to 18 points to lead the Saints. Shannon Rhone went 5-6, all from beyond the arc, for 15 points and had seven assists.

After a close first quarter the Saints hit three consecutive 3-pointers early in the second to jump out to a nine-point lead. A three from Olivia Middleton made it a double-digit difference after less than three minutes. Another three from Middleton in the final minute of the half sent the Saints into the locker room up 50-33.

The Saints extended the lead to 25 in the third quarter and as much as 27 in the fourth and won 82-59.

"The understanding of our offense is growing rapidly and that has been reflected in our improved shooting and assists," said head coach Dan Roiger. "A ridiculous number of assists today because we moved the ball well and found open teammates who made shots. Lots of really good performances tonight, but I'd really like to credit our posts who worked hard to defend Devaney, a player who is really good and given us problems in the past."

Brooke Jarvis led the Herons with 18 points. Maddie Patrick and Lauren DeVaney also finished with double digits. William Smith out-rebounded St. Lawrence 37-35.

The Saints hit 16 shots from deep. In addition to Rhone and Malley's combined ten, Middleton hit a pair, and Hannah Van Dyke, Katie Chisholm, Abby Doin, and Margaret Dougher connected.

The Saints also forced 19 turnovers with Middleton and Caelan McHarney each having three steals. McHarney also had six rebounds and five assists.

The Saints assisted on a season-high 27 scores, led by Rhone's seven. Middleton and Olivia Barringer each added four.

St. Lawrence improved to 11-7 on the season and 8-5 in the league. They sit two games back from third place Vassar and are two games up on fifth place RPI. The Herons fall to 6-14 and 4-9 in the league.

The Saints host RIT on February 4th at 2 p.m. to wrap up the weekend.
