The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team suffered a 78-45 defeat against the Oswego Lakers on Tuesday afternoon in Canton, N.Y. The Lakers, who were ranked in the top 10 earlier in the season, improved 10-2 with their sixth straight win, and the Saints fell to 5-4.
St. Lawrence could not get their offense going early, with their second field goal not coming until eight minutes left in the first half. The Saints had 12 first half turnovers, amd the Lakers went into half-time leading 35-19.
Oswego continued to force difficult shots for the Saints in the second half, and quickly extended the lead to 21. The Lakers shot 54-percent from the floor and 55-percent from deep in the second half on a St. Lawrence team that has been holding opponents to less than 40-percent this season.
Miles Davis provided the much-needed spark off the bench, scoring a team high 12 points, all in the second half. A tip-in with a minute to go gave Oswego their biggest lead of the night, 33-points, and the final score read 78-45.
"We played uninspired after the long break," said head coach
Chris Downs, "and you can't do that against good teams. That's on me and no one else. Back to work on Wednesday."
In addition to Davis' dozen,
Trent Adamson finished with 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
The Saints out-rebounded Oswego, coming down with 35 to the Lakers' 30. The Lakers hit 11 shots from deep, while the Saints hit just one on 11 attempts.
The Saints resume league play this weekend, hosting Bard on January 6
th at 7:30 p.m., and Vassar on the 7
th with a 4 p.m. scheduled tip.
