Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Adamson's Second Half Pushes Saints Over Bard

Trent Adamson scored 19 second half points to lead the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team in a 67-52 win against Bard on Friday afternoon in Burkman Gymnasium.

In addition to Adamson, Trey Syroka had five assists to pace the Saints' offense, and Will Engelhardt hit three from deep and had three steal.

Both teams struggled to find their offensive rhythm early in the game. An Aidan Macaulay three-pointer gave St. Lawrence their first points three and a half minutes into the game. The Raptors did well to limit Adamson's touches in the first half, and he took just three shots, though he came down with three rebounds and had a block. Andrew Cowan used his height and footwork to score seven first half points, and had a pair of blocks, but the Saints trailed Bard 32-28.

Bard came out in the second half and hit the first bucket, but Adamson finally got in the scoring column making three-points the old-fashioned way, Gavin Macaulay scored the next five points to give St. Lawrence their first lead of the game.

The Saints and Raptors traded mini runs over the next 10 minutes, and with eight to play Bard attacked the paint and took the lead at 50-48. Over the next seven minutes St. Lawrence scored 19-straight points, 14 coming from Adamson including a pair of fastbreak dunks, to put the game out of reach. Bard, who leads the league in offensive rebounds, only managed to grab one in that span.

Adamson finished with 7 rebounds, four blocks, and two assists to go along with his 19 points. Will Engelhardt had 13 points and three rebounds and steals. Aidan Macaulay had ten, including a pair of three-pointers, to go with his four assists. Syroka had two steals to go with his five assists.

Ayo Akin-Bankole led Bard with 14 points on seven for seven shooting.

The Saints shot 53-percent in the second half to mount their comeback, and held Bard to 25-percent in the second half. Bard controlled the boards for much of the game, securing 43 rebounds to St. Lawrence's 27.

With the 67-52 win, the Saints improve to 6-4 on the year and 2-2 in the league. Bard drops to 3-8 on the year, and 0-4 in the league.

The Saints return to Burkman Gymnasium for a 4 p.m. scheduled tip-off against Vassar on January 7th.
