The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team defeated Bard by 45 points on Saturday afternoon in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. to improved to 9-6 on the season and 5-4 in the conference.
Shannon Rhone led the Saints with 13 points in 13 minutes.
Jackie Malley had 12 points, all from beyond the arc, and
Kristen Varin had 10 off the bench.
Bard led 7-5 after two minutes of play, but the Saints finished the quarter outscoring the Raptors 21-2. The second quarter was both team's best defensive efforts, only 17 total points was scored, but the Scarlet and Brown extended their lead to 36-16 at halftime.
In the second half, the Saints were able to find their offensive rhythm again, and extended the lead to as many as 39 points, and did not slow down in the fourth, finally winning 79-34.
"Nice bounce back game for us and really great to spread out the minutes and see everybody on the team score," said head coach
Dan Roiger. "Except for the second quarter, we really shot the ball well and I loved the teamwork with the 26 assists. Good ball movement and passes lead to good shots and we found some rhythm today."
All 13 Laurentians finished in the scoring column, and the team finished 43-percent from the floor while holding Bard to 23.5-percent shooting. The Saints hit 10 more 3-pointers than the Raptors, and came down with 21 more rebounds.
39 of the St. Lawrence points came from the bench, and the team scored 29 points off the 20 turnovers they forced.
The Raptors were led by Thalia Grandinetti's 15 points and seven rebounds. The team fell to 1-16 on the season and 0-10 in Liberty League play.
The Saints return to Burkman Gymnasium on January 31
st when they will host Clarkson at 5:30 p.m.
