Olivia Middleton scored a career-high 29 points as the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team exploded for 99 points in their win over William Smith on Saturday afternoon in Geneva, N.Y.
Middleton also distributed a season high six assists for the Saints.
Olivia Barringer had a season high 18 points off 9-12 shooting, and grabbed five rebounds.
Jackie Malley hit three triples on her way to 13 points, and
Shannon Rhone and
Kristen Varin each added 11.
The Saints and Herons were even at the end of the first and second quarters. St. Lawrence went on a 10-point run in the third quarter, with Middleton scoring eight, to finally create some separation, and led 81-70 after three. William Smith cut the lead to six midway through the fourth quarter, but Middleton and
Caelan McHarney hit consecutive layups to stop the run, and the Saints were able to close the game and win 99-84.
"Crazy game today," said head coach
Dan Roiger. "We adjusted well at halftime. When you're two seniors go 22-35 from the field and score 47 points, you are in good position. Both were outstanding today, and
Olivia Middleton with 29 points and six assists was personally responsible for 41 points, that's amazing."
Lauren DeVaney and Brooke Jarvis each scored 24 for Williams Smith. DeVaney also came down with 11 boards for a double-double.
Cam Roberts and
Caelan McHarney each came up with two steals to help anchor the Scarlet and Brown defense.
The Saints had 15 more points off turnovers and eight more second chance points than the Herons.
With their second straight win, the Saints improve to 8-6 and 4-4 in the league, while the Herons dropped to 5-11 and 3-6 in the league.
"It was a really nice weekend for us," said Roiger, "and I'm really proud of the energy and intensity out team brought to the court."
St. Lawrence has another road trip next weekend where they will face Vassar on January 27
th at 5:30 p.m. and Bard on January 28
