Jackie Malley connected on five shots from deep and scored a career best 17 points in the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team's 68-56 loss on the road to RPI on Saturday afternoon.
Malley went 5-8 from deep and came down with four rebounds. Junior
Shannon Rhone contributed a season high 15 points going 3-4 from deep and had five assists, and
Olivia Barringer added eight points on just 3 shot attempts and was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line with 11 rebounds.
A close game throughout, neither team ever got more than a five-point advantage through the opening two quarters and went into half-time tied at 31.
The fourth quarter is when the Engineers pulled away. They hit a three with just under three minutes to go, and while Malley answered with a shot from deep of her own, RPI went 5-6 from the free throw line the rest of the way, and the Saints failed to score.
RPI shot 40-percent in the final quarter, while the Saints shot just 23-percent from the floor.
Julia Rowe had 17 to lead the Engineers, including going 7-8 from the charity stripe.
St. Lawrence fell to 6-5 and 2-4 in league play, while RPI improved to 8-6 and 5-2.
The Saints host Middlebury at 7 p.m. on January 17
th for an out of conference game before resuming league play next weekend.
