First-year Jimmy King claimed his first individual title and lead St. Lawrence's 'A' team to the win, as the Saints' men's golf team opened the season with the St. Lawrence Invitational at the par-72 Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course this weekend.

First-year head coach Tyler Wollberg also picked up his first win with the Scarlet and Brown.

King shot a 73 during round one and shot one under par with a 71 on Sunday for the win and a combined 144 on the weekend. Ben Scholes shot five over par to finish the invitational in second place with a 149 and Wes Bevins tied for fifth with a 155 overall (77, 78).  

Cooper Evans and Sam Lyman rounded out the five golfers on the 'A' team with a combined 156 and 164, respectively.

St. Lawrence placed teams in first (604), second (633) and fifth (651) after two rounds of play, while Clarkson finished third with a 643 and SUNY Canton finished fourth with a 645.

Clarkson's 'B' team finished sixth, followed by SUNY Oswego, Utica and Paul Smith's in seventh through ninth place.

The Saints will play a single round at the Clarkson Invitational on Tuesday, September 6 at the Potsdam Town and Country Club.
