Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Saints Win Third Straight

Anna Coyne had two goals and Maggie Green had a pair of assists as the St. Lawrence University field hockey team defeated the Utica Pioneers 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Canton, N.Y.

After a scoreless first quarter where each team managed just one shot, Suzanne L'Hommedieu fired a shot off a penalty corner taken by Green to give the Saints the 1-0 lead. With less than a minute to go in the half, the lead was doubled. Abby Guenther collected the ball with her back to the cage, and fired a low shot to the far corner, where it found the inside of the cage for her second goal of the year.

It did not take long in the second half for the Saints to increase their lead. Less than three minutes into the half, Green took the ball up the right flank and beat a defender. She crossed the ball in front of the net where Coyne redirected the shot into the net. Four minutes later the Saints earned a penalty corner. The set play led to Morgan Misiaszek having the ball on the touch line, and she found Coyne in front of the net who was able to make it 4-0 with her third goal on the season.

The Saints dominated possession, allowing zero Utica shots on goal. The Saints managed eight shots, six of which where on target.

Lucy Adiutori had the complete game shut out in net but was not forced to make any saves.

Head coach Fran Grembowicz
"It was really nice to see a total team effort today, up and down the field. I thought we really worked well together to both defend and to attack. We had some good passing runs up the field, we had some great support from our midfield and defenders. It's really great to see more than a one up on the scoreboard and still have a shutout on the other end. Utica had some really good players and made it tough to contain them, but our defense held strong, and we had some really nice clears out of the circle to start some great passing sequences up the field."
