The Saints lost just one singles match and one doubles match as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team cruised to a 7-2 win over William Smith on Saturday afternoon at the Newell Field House.
The Scarlet and Brown improved to 7-5 with the win, while the Herons fell to 3-8.
The day's matches started in the doubles where the Saints earned a pair of 8-1 wins. The duo of
Catherine Gamble and
Caitlyn Avery faced off against Julia Pida and Isabelle Goings-Perrot in the number two spot. Juniors Gamble and Avery would come away with the 8-1 win. At number two,
Meredith Macey and
Emily Harris lined up against Charlotte Sanford and Emma Johnston and found similar success taking the 8-1 victory.
In the singles, Gamble and Avery doubled down on the day winning their singles matches. Gamble won her number two match 6-2, 6-2, while Avery won her matches 6-1, 6-2 in the third spot of the lineup. Macey and Harris followed suit winning their second matches of the day as well. Macey, who competed in the number four spot, swept the opening set 6-0 before finishing off Pida 6-3. Harris took on Crystal Morgans at number five and similarly swept the opening set 6-0 before earning the 6-1 win in the second set.
Elena Styliades went to 1-1 on the day in the six spot after sweeping Charlotte Sanford 6-0, 6-0 at number six.
The Scarlet and Brown will have a quick turnaround as they will take on the University of Rochester tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. in the Newell Field House.
