The Saints were able to secure four wins in the singles portion of the match, but could not complete the comeback as the St. Lawrence women's tennis team fell 5-4 to Rochester on Sunday morning at the Newell Field House.
St. Lawrence fell to 7-6 with the loss, while the Yellowjackets improved to 6-5.
The Scarlet and Brown struggled in the early going 0-3 in the doubles round despite brining two of the matches to a tiebreaker.
Lillian Sullivan and
Elena Styliades battled Cami Ruiz Vega and Josephine at number one, but dropped the tiebreaker 7-2 to fall 8-7.
Meredith Macey and
Emily Harris suffered the same fate as at number three, they lost their tiebreaker 7-2 to fall 8-7.
The Saints started to make a comeback in the singles round, but could not get the fifth win they needed.
At number two,
Catherine Gamble avenged her teammates in the number one doubles defeating Ruiz Vega 6-3, 6-4. At number three,
Caitlyn Avery won her first set 6-3 over Rola Abouzeina 6-3, but dropped the second set 6-2. In the decisive third set, Avery outlasted her competition winning 11-9 to take the match.
Harris rolled to a win in the number five spot as she quickly dismantled her opponent 6-2, 6-0. At number six, Styliades dropped Olivia Waysack 6-0 in their opening set before securing a narrow 7-5 win to close the match.
The Saints will be back in action this coming Friday, April 15th, when the Scarlet and Brown travel to Rochester to take on the RIT Tigers. The matchup is set for a noon start.
