The Saints had four players go 2-0 on the day as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team defeated RIT on Friday afternoon at the Gordon Field House in Rochester, N.Y.
The Scarlet and Brown improved to 8-6 on the year and 4-3 in the Liberty League with the win. The Tigers fell to 6-6 with the loss and 2-4 in conference action.
The match started in doubles where St. Lawrence's number one and two teams won handily.
Catherine Gamble and
Elena Styliades took on Jackie Drozd and Gabby Donohue at number one and cruised to an 8-1 win. At number two,
Caitlyn Avery and
Emily Harris took on Abby Murray and Julianne Ho and took home an 8-1 win.
In singles, all four of the double's winners backed up their wins to go 2-0. At number one, Gamble took on Drozd once again and won 6-0, 6-0. Avery took on Donohue at number two and came away with a pair of 6-1 wins to take the match. At number four, Harris took on Murray again and much like her doubles partner, won back-to-back 6-1 sets for the win. Styliades followed up her doubles win at the number five spot defeating Julia Smolowitz 6-1, 6-2.
The Saints earned their seventh win at number six, where
Gabriella Dadoly took on Ho. The junior won her sets 6-1, and 6-4 to finish off the day.
The Scarlet and Brown will not be back in action until Saturday, April 30th when the team takes on Ithaca College in Canton. The final match of the regular season will serve as Senior Day for the Saints, who will be honoring their lone senior,
Ibadat Javed.
