Isabel Silvia dialed up four goals and five points on the day and 13 Saints tallied a point, as the No. 17 St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team defeated SUNY Canton 20-11 on Tuesday afternoon at the SUNY Canton Turf Field.
St. Lawrence improved to 9-1 on the year with the non-conference win, while the Roos fell to 5-5 on the year.
Along with Silvia, four other Saints gained at least three points.
Callie O'Neil (1-2),
Jaime Allan (2-1),
Charlotte Powell (3-0), and
Susan Hartgers (1-2) all had three points on the day.
The Scarlet and Brown offense, which scored 20 goals for the second straight game, came out hot in the matchup, as O'Neil fueled a 4-0 start to begin the game. In the first two minutes of the game, O'Neil assisted on goals from Silvia and
Rachel Burke. O'Neil buried one for herself at the two minute and 10 second mark to make it a 3-0 lead. Powell was up next scoring with 9:13 left in the quarter to complete the run.
SUNY Canton broke up the streak with a man-up goal from Samantha Dayter, but St. Lawrence sandwiched the Roos' tally with another run, this time a five-goal one.
Neve Ley, Silvia, and Powell each scored in the waning minutes of the first quarter to make it a 7-1 game. The run continued in the first minute of the second as Allan and Silvia scored to bring it to 9-1.
Dayter once again ended the drought for SUNY Canton with her second goal of the game. Following the goal,
Emma Polumbo made her presence felt with back-to-back goals to give the Saints a 10-goal cushion. Allan,
Bella Hillman, and
Jacqui Cloutier each scored later in the quarter to bring the score to 14-4 after 30 minutes.
Following an early second-half goal from Maila MacDonald, SUNY Canton started to gain traction as Dayter, and Casey Pelton scored as part of a 3-0 run. The mini run was stopped by
Lillian York, who tallied a goal for St. Lawrence with two minutes and 28 seconds left in the third.
The fourth quarter was played to a draw, as both teams scored four times in the final 15 minutes. Silvia, Burke, and Powell all scored in the first 14 minutes of action. The game was capped off with five seconds remaining by Hartgers, who scored a man-up goal to give the Scarlet and Brown their 20th of the day.
Raelynn Bovenzi started between the pipes for the Saints and played the first 30 minutes of the game. Bovenzi made two saves in the win.
Courtney Lynn Came on in relief of Bovenzi in the third quarter making two saves of her own. The fourth belonged to
Paige Glasgow, who stopped four shots in the final 15 minutes. Madison Leary was in net for the Roos and made 14 shots in the effort.
The Saints dominated in shots to the tune of 40-27 and led 34-19 in shots on goal. St. Lawrence also had teh edge in ground balls 16-14 and in draw controls 20-15.
The Scarlet and Brown will be back in action this weekend, where the Saints will play back-to-back matches against Union and Skidmore on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, April 8th, St. Lawrence will head to Schenectady to take on Union at 4:00 p.m., then on Saturday they will head to Saratoga Springs for a 2:00 p.m. game against the Thoroughbreds.
