Mark Mahoney scored a team-high four goals, and
Chris Jordan led the way with seven points, as the No. 15 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team routed SUNY Plattsburgh 25-5 on Tuesday night at Hall-Leet Stadium.
St. Lawrence improved to 7-2 on the season with the non-conference win, while Plattsburgh fell to 2-8 on the year.
Three Saints earned their first career points in the win, as
Padraic Condon,
Griffin Marx, and
Brian Souza all scored their first collegiate goals.
The Scarlet and Brown offense was churning from the get-go as the team amassed an 8-0 lead in the first 13 minutes of the game. Six different Saints scored goals, as the squad took a 6-0 lead. In the 8-0 run,
Mark Mahoney tallied two goals and one assist, while
Chris Jordan scored a goal and provided three assists in the onslaught.
Judge Murphy,
Guthrie Little,
Josh Huiatt,
Bobby Wells, and
Jack Hennessey all provided goals as well.
Plattsburgh was able to stop to the Saints' run momentarily, as they got on the scoreboard with a Stephen Kane goal with less than two minutes left in the opening quarter.
St. Lawrence got back on track in the second quarter taking a 12-1 lead with four straight goals to start. Condon scored six seconds in off a faceoff win and was followed by Murphy, Mahoney, and Hennessey. Condon, who is the team's leading faceoff man, scored his first collegiate goal with the tally. The Cardinals scored their second of the game with just over seven minutes left in the half, but Murphy capped off the first 30 with a goal off an assist from
Chase Malatesta with five minutes to go.
St. Lawrence led 13-2 at the break.
The third quarter saw much of the same, as the Saints scored three more to make it a 16-2 game before Donald Woods scored for the Cardinals.
In the final four minutes of the third quarter,
Cody Sipher scored his first of the year, then
Ben Kniskern scored a man-down goal to give St. Lawrence a 15-goal lead. Corsi scored with 14 seconds left in the quarter, which was followed by the long-stick midfielder Marx, who screamed down the field with less than ten seconds left and fired home his first goal with the long pole to make it 20-3 with 15 left to go.
Souza scored is first career goal with just under 12 minutes to go in the game, then celebrated with two more in the final three minutes to give him his first hat trick.
Ben Kniskern also scored in the fourth quarter, as the Saints cruised to the 25-5 win.

Plattsburgh was led by Micheal Swift with three goals, while Kane and Woods both tallied a goal and an assist.
William Helm started in net for the Scarlet and Brown making five saves on six shots.
Elliott LaGorce,
Michael Marinello, and
Andrew Vona all saw time between the pipes for the Saints in the win. Christian Bassi made 11 saves for the Cardinals.
St. Lawrence finished with a 36-12 advantage in shots on goal, and picked up a season-best 48 ground balls. They also controlled the faceoff circle, going 24-10, with
Brendan Brigham going 10-for-11,
Jackson Lalonde going 6-for-9, Condon finishing 5-for-6 and
Lucas Podvey finishing 3-for-8. The Saints also tallied a man-down goal and killed off both of the Plattsburgh penalties.
The Saints will hit the road to take on Skidmore in another battle under the lights, this Friday, April 8 at 7 p.m. in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Â
