Nico Haet went 2-0 on the day including the match-clinching win in singles as the St. Lawrence men's tennis team defeated Ithaca 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Sammis Tennis Courts.
The Scarlet and Brown improved to 9-8 on the season and 4-4 in conference play, while the Bombers fell to 8-10 and 2-6 in league play.
Before today's match, the St. Lawrence men's tennis team honored the Class of 2022 in
Nico Haet and
Cameron Pankau.
The Saints started the day on the right note taking two of three in the doubles round. At number one,
Nathan Turtledove and
Ben Moolman teamed up to defeat Deon Kraft and Eric Dubilirer 8-3. At number three, Haet, and
John Hill-Edgar took on Nicolas Luis and Jacob Wachs and also took an 8-3 win.
In singles, St. Lawrence lost their top-two matches, but swept the number three through six spots to secure the win.
Adam Heilbronner played in the number four spot against Kraft and took a 6-1, 6-4 win, while
Broderick Pinto went to three sets losing the first game 6-2 before winning the last two 7-5, 10-3.
Hill-Edgar played Wachs at number six and took the win 6-3, 6-1. At number three, Haet clinched the fifth win of the day as the senior took on Dubilirer. The senior won 6-3 in the opening set, then won the tiebreaker point 7-5 to take the second set 7-6.
With the win, the Saints earned the number five seed in the Liberty League Tennis Championship and will take on Vassar next Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Reis Tennis Center at Cornell University. The winner of that match will take on RPI on Saturday morning.
