Saints Finish Florida Trip 5-4

The St. Lawrence University softball team split their games on the final day of The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.

Gabby Slater had her third complete game win of the seasons to beat the Diplomats, and Margo Hopper hit a grand slam in the loss to the Continentals. Lauryn Best went five for eight on the day with two doubles and an RBI.

Franklin & Marshall 3, St. Lawrence 5
Best led off the second inning and hit a double to deep center. Emily Desjardins pinch ran for her, and scored off of a Cora Ferguson single up the middle. In the fourth, it was again Best that got the offense going. She singled up the middle, and a Ferguson single moved her to second. Sofia Camillieri advanced the runners on a ground out to second, and Zola Braswell batted Best in.

In the bottom of the fifth the Diplomats scored two runs on three hits to even the score.

In the top of the seventh inning, Stella VanGee singled to short, and moved to third off of a Vivian Johnson single to left. Meredith Rose hit a single to bat in VanGee to make it 3-2, and Best got her third hit of the day to bring in Johnson and move Rose to third. Ferguson then had her third hit of the day and second RBI when she singled through the left side to bring in Rose.

In the bottom of the seventh the Diplomats were able to score one run, and had two runners on, but Braswell snagged a liner to third to secure the victory for St. Lawrence. Slater struck out four in the win.

Hamilton 14, St. Lawrence 7
Hamilton scored two runs in each of the first three innings, and led the game 6-1 in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Best doubled to right center. Catcher Kayla Minst singled up the middle to advance the runner. Camillieri singled through the left side to score Best. Ayana Holloman hit a single to load the bases, and Hopper came in to pinch hit. With one swing of the bat she evened the score at six by hitting a grand slam to left center field, her second home run of the season.

In the bottom of the fourth the Saints scored on a dropped fly to left field to take the 7-6 lead. The Continentals scored four in the top of the sixth, and added three more in the top of the seventh to jump to a 14-7 lead. The Saints were able to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but a pair of caught balls ended the game.

Head coach Rosie Phillips
"We had some solid games, a lot of learning moments, and we grew as a team facing good competition this week. This will put us in a good place as we transition into regular season play."
