Rachel Burke scored three goals and added two assists, as the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team posted its third straight win, after topping Saint Michael's 13-6 on Friday afternoon in Colchester, Vt.
Jaime Allan,
Charlotte Powell and
Morgan Arakelian each recorded two goals, while
Callie O'Neil,
Isabel Silvia,
Bella Hillman and
Neve Ley all scored once.
Jacqui Cloutier led the Saints' defense with four ground balls, three caused turnovers and one draw control win.
Jordy Fenton struck first for the Purple Knights, but the Saints scored the next seven straight to take a 7-1 lead.
Fenton scored her second of the game at 8:56 of the second quarter and the Saints headed into halftime off a man-up goal from Allan and Powell for the 10-2 advantage.
O'Neil and Arakelian scored the lone goals of the third frame.
The Purple Knights attempted a rally in the fourth frame, outscoring the Saints 4-1, but were unable to overcome the early deficit to the Scarlet and Brown.
"The team showed some resiliency in the first half," said head coach
Chelsea Martin. "We are learning to play faster and to continue to push the tempo. I am proud of the effort that was shown by the team throughout the game. Our defense played great and held the team to two goals in the first three quarters."
The Saints led 30-23 in shots, including a 22-17 edge in shots on goal. St. Lawrence also led 22-15 in ground balls, while both teams won 11 draw controls.
Catie Murphy scored three goals for the Purple Knights, while Fenton added two.
Raelynn Bovenzi recorded 11 saves in the winning effort, while Hope Msumba made nine.
St. Lawrence improved to 3-0, while Saint Michael's fell to 1-2.
The Saints will travel to Plattsburgh on Tuesday, March 15 at 3 p.m.
