Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Saints Fall to Hobart 64-49

The St. Lawrence men's basketball team fell to Hobart 64-49 on Tuesday evening in Canton, N.Y.

The Statesmen and Saints sparred evenly for the majority of the first half, and with three minutes to play before the break St. Lawrence trailed by eight. Will Engelhardt found Andy Downs, who hit the open 3-pointer, and as the Statesmen brought the ball down the court Carter Storey jumped the passing lane for the steal and the easy lay-in to cut it to a three-point game. Hunter Meshanic hit a pair of free throws for Hobart to give the Purple and Orange a 32-27 lead at halftime.

The Saints struggled from the field to open the second half, and after 10 and a half minutes, Hobart had outscored them 23-5 to open up a 22-point lead. St. Lawrence was able to cut into the lead and closed the gap to 14 with two and a half minutes to play, but that is as close as they could get it.

"We continue to show our lack of maturity when confronted with adversity," said head coach Chris Downs. "We are up and down emotionally practice-to-practice and game-to-game. We are learning lessons that will serve us well. I just wish we would learn them more quickly."

The Statesmen shot 54-percent from the floor in the second half, and hit four 3-pointers to pull away. They held St. Lawrence to 26-percent in the second half.

Engelhardt led the Saints with 11 points and five rebounds in 33 minutes. Trey Syroka and Gavin Macaulay each added seven. Trent Adamson, who leads the team in points and rebounds for the season, played limited minutes due to foul trouble and ended the night with five points and four boards.

Hobart was led by Patrick Walker's 13 points off the bench. Jackson Meshanic had a dozen points and 17 rebounds.

Hobart dominated the boards, coming down with 22 more rebounds than St. Lawrence, who as a team had 23.

St. Lawrence sits fifth in the Liberty League, with four conference games left.
