Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Saints Close Strong to Top Tigers 77-68

The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team put together a 50-point second half to come from behind and beat RIT 77-68 on Saturday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y.

Will Engelhardt scored a game-high 18 points and had eight rebounds to lead the Saints, but four of his teammates ended with double digits.

An early 11-point run gave the Tigers a 12-point lead midway through the opening half, but St. Lawrence whittled it down to five. Each team had an answer for every opponent's bucket for the rest of the half, and Andy Downs hit a 3-pointer to send the Saints into the halftime break trailing 33-27.

The second half was more of the same, yo-yoing between a four and seven point lead for the Tigers, and with eight minutes to go the Saints trailed 57-50, but over the next seven minutes outscored the Tigers 22-3. Will Engelhardt had eight and Luke Hicks scored five during this run. The Saints went seven-for-eight from the free throw line in the final minute, and secured the 77-68 victory.

"We didn't have our best defensive night tonight" said head coach Chris Downs. "Down the stretch we made just enough shots and then our freethrows in the last minute and a half to hold on. We will practice in the morning on Sunday and get ready for Hobart on Tuesday night."

In addition to Engelhardt's 18, Hicks and Aidan Macaulay each had a dozen points, and Trent Adamson and Andy Downs each had 11.

Brock Bowen and Kevin Ryan each had 18 points for RIT and Kenny Wilburn had 12.

St. Lawrence shot over 51-percent from the floor in the second half, for a game total of 46.4-percent and 30-percent from beyond the arc. RIT also shot well, hitting 45.6-percent from the floor and 37-percent from deep.

St. Lawrence scored 29 points off of RIT's 20 turnovers. RIT was able to capitalize on St. Lawrence's 11 turnovers with 11 points.
