Haet's Gutsy Win Gives Saints 5-4 Win Over Saint Michael's

In a match that went down to the last point, senior Nico Haet came up clutch with his win in the number three singles to give the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team the 5-4 win over Saint Michael's College on Thursday afternoon in the Newell Field House.

St. Lawrence got its first win of the year to move to 1-0, while the Purple Knights fell to 1-4.

Much like the day started, the day began with a Haet win, as the senior teamed up with first-year John Hill-Edgar in the doubles. The duo won the number three matchup 8-3 over Jackson Moser and Constantin Krogh to start the day. Broderick Pinto and Adam Heilbronner were up next in the number two doubles winning 8-4 over Jason Boucher and Stefan Barre. The Saints would take a 2-1 lead after the doubles.

The Scarlet and Brown got wins in the No. 1, 3, 5 singles to take the match. In the number one spot, Nathan Turtledove fell 6-2 in the first set of his match with Jackson Moser. Turtledove came back winning the next two sets 6-3 to take the match. Pinto was playing in the number five spot against Seb Tonini, and won handily 6-3, 6-3. The overall match went to 4-4 with just one match to play in the number three singles. Haet took on Sergio Barasso and the two went toe-to-toe trading 7-5 wins. Haet, who lost the second set, came up big winning the last set 7-6 (7-4) to give himself and the Saints the win.

With their wins, Pinto and Haet each went 2-0 on the day.
