Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Saint Comeback Falls Short

The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team held the Clarkson offense to just 54-points, but lost to their route 11 rivals by five point on Wednesday night in Potsdam, N.Y.

The Golden Knights jumped out to a quick five-point lead, and led by as many as seven in the opening minutes. Aidan Macaulay and Will Engelhardt hit back-to-back jumpers to give St. Lawrence their first lead at 16-14. Clarkson's Jack Dalgety scored eight-straight points to retake the lead, and the hosts never trailed again. They led 29-25 at the break.

Clarkson scored a quick five points to start the second half, but threes from Liam McDonald and Carter Storey kept the Scarlet and Brown in the game. The Saints brought the game to within one three times but had trouble shutting down Dalgety.

Trent Adamson scored six-straight on his own to bring the score even at 44 with 10 minutes to play. A Clarkson jumper broke the deadlock, and for nearly five minutes each team's defense held strong and did not give up a point. With two and a half minutes left the Saints trailed by six, but a defensive stop sandwiched by McDonald's second three of the night and another Adamson layup made it a one-point game.

Clarkson answered to again lead by three. The Saints' tying 3-pointer came up short, and the Golden Knights were able to break the press and win 54-49.

"We played well defensively," said head coach Chris Downs, "Clarkson also played great defense. We continue to be plagued by poor shot selection and missed free throws. We have put ourselves in a hole in the Liberty League, but it's a long season. We will get this figured out and improve."

Adamson led the Saints with 16 points, eight boards, a pair of blocks, and a steal. Aidan Macaulay had a career high 10 rebounds to go with his six points. Gavin Macaulay, Trey Syroka, and McDonald all finished with six points as well.

Dalgety led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Teddy Fravel also finished in double digits for the hosts.

Both teams shot about 32-percent from the floor. After hitting four first half threes, Clarkson went 0-10 from deep in the second half. All three Saints shots from deep came in the second half.
