Third Quarter Lifts RPI Over Saints in Troy

An extra-point kick and a late field goal in the third quarter lifted the RPI Engineers to a 10-6 win over the St. Lawrence University football team on Saturday afternoon in Troy, N.Y.

Saints quarterback Daniel Lawther was 17-of-25 for 188 yards and one touchdown, while TJ Cornacchia caught a team-best four passes for 46 yards. Daniel Greene also recorded four passes for 45 yards, while Peyton Schmitt rushed for 35 yards.
 
Defensively, the Saints had four sacks, including an 11-yard effort by Bryan Placide. In total, Placide had seven tackles including three solos, which trailed only Victor Gamberoni and Ben Munn, both of whom had eight stops, with two solos apiece.
 
The Saints took advantage of a short field to score the game's first points.
 
St. Lawrence got the ball at its own 41-yard line following a short punt and went the 59 yards in six plays. Lawther found Cornacchia in the front left corner of the end zone from 18 yards out giving the Scarlet and Brown an early 6-0 lead. The extra point on the play was missed.

RPI rallied about halfway through the third quarter, as Jake Kazanowsky's short three-yard pass was good to Shane Allison to tie the game. Aleksander Maric's kick was good to put the Engineers up 7-6.

The Engineers tacked on a 32-yard field goal from Maric with 2:08 to play in the third to take a 10-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Kazanowsky finished 14-for-21 passing with 132 yards and one touchdown, while Dylan Burnett ran 106 yards on 26 attempts and Deen Ninche and Gil Goldsmith both finished with three catches to lead the Engineers offense. Connor Noyes led the defense with nine tackles, while Amaechi Konkwo recorded two sacks for 17 yards.

RPI finished with a 13-9 edge in first downs, and finished with 228 total yards on offense to the Saints 153. The Saints defense came up big with four sacks for 25 yards.

St. Lawrence fell to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in Liberty League play, while RPI improved to 6-3 and 4-1.

The Saints will return to home to Leckonby Stadium for their final home game, as the host Buffalo State on senior day, November 12 at 1 p.m.
