Saints Down Buffalo State on Senior Day, 31-7

Daniel Lawther passed 15-for-29 for 166 yards and led the Saints' ground game with 101 yards as the St. Lawrence University football team defeated Buffalo State 31-7 in Liberty League action on senior day at Leckonby Stadium.

Lawther tallied two passing touchdowns and tallied a 26-yard touchdown on the run for the Scarlet and Brown. Peyton Schmitt recorded 91 yards, while Robert Coll made eight catches for 93 yards and Schmitt finished with one catch for 26 yards. Daniel Greene and Joseph Ott both tallied two receptions for 14 yards apiece.

First-year Clayton Fogler tallied five kicks for 186 yards and finished with a career-best 48-yard field goal. Defensively, the Saints were led by Brian Casazza with 13 tackles, while Ben Munn recorded 11, one tackle for the loss of seven yards and one sack. Thomas Our recorded two sacks on the afternoon, while Owen O'Brien recorded two interceptions and Daniel George and Victor Gamberoni each added one.

In total, the Saints' defense finished with five sacks, four interceptions, four pass breakups and one blocked kick.

Lawther connected with Ott to put the Scarlet and Brown on the board first with a four-yard pass to cap a 33-yard run. Fogler's kick was good for the 7-0 lead with 4:36 to play in the first.

Schmitt was next to the scoreboard. Lawther sent the ball to Schmitt, who made the 26-yard catch for the second touchdown. Fogler's second kick was good to increase the Saints lead to 14-0.

Fogler converted on a career-best 48-yard field goal to give St. Lawrence a 17-0 lead heading into halftime.

After two big stops from the Saints, Buffalo State would find their way to the scoreboard, as Javon Ford worked his way into the endzone with a one-yard run. Nick Sciandra's kick with good, bringing the score to 17-7.

Lawther would hold on for a 26-yard run for the Saints' third touchdown and after the kick, St. Lawrence led 24-7.

George picked off a pass from Ford and ran in a 35-yard interception to cap the scoring and seal the win 31-7.



Ford passed 11-for-28 for 107 yards, while Ale Wilson led the ground game for the Bengals with 79 yards and Tariq Nelson finished with three catches for 42 yards. Darren Thompson led the defense with 12 tackles, while Michael Drywa recorded one sack and Michael Lastique tallied one interception.

The Saints finished with a 23-15 advantage in first downs and finished with 383 yards on offense to the Bengals'194. Buffalo State converted on 5-of-13 third down opportunities, while the Saints capitalized on 3-of-4 fourth down chances.

Prior to today's game, the Saints honored the 21 members of the senior class including: Tyler Liddy, Victor Gamberoni, Jack Saltus, Robert Coll, Alex Bjerser, Kevin Quinn, Ryan Carvel, Nicholas Ames, Matt Parkinson, Jacob Dreisbach, Nathan DeRue, Joseph O'Rourke, Austin Reisenberger, TJ Cornacchia, Nathan Rosahac, Bryan Placide, Bennett Cheer, Peyton Schmitt, Daniel Greene, Brian Casazza and Reece Gillette.

St. Lawrence closed the 2022 season 4-6 overall and 2-4 in conference play, while Buffalo State ended their season 0-10 and 0-6, respectively.
