Carter Storey shot four-for-five from 3-point range to lead the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 71-62 win over SUNY Potsdam in Burkman Gymnasium on Friday evening.
Storey finished with 12 points and led four other Saints with double digits, as
Will Engelhardt,
Trey Syroka and
Trent Adamson all finished with 11 and Aiden Macaulay added 10. Adamson also led the Scarlet and Brown with five rebounds and two blocks, while Engelhardt recorded four steals.
Aiden Macauley was first to the basket and the Saints never gave away the lead for the rest of the night.
The Bears brought the game within two with 14 minutes and 32 seconds to play in the first half, but the Saints used a 16-4 run to double up on the Bears and lead 28-14 with 6:52 to play.
Potsdam was unable to bring the game back within single digits and St. Lawrence held a 37-23 advantage at halftime.
The Bears opened the second half with a full-court press and tallied the first six points of the half, all off free throws to bring the game within eight, but layups from Adamson and Macauley put the Scarlet and Brown back in double-digit territory.
The Bears were able to bring the game back to single digits a few more times down the stretch but were unable to take control, as the Saints posted their second-straight win.
"It took a little bit for us to find our groove against a tough Potsdam team tonight," said head coach
Chris Downs. "The team battled and were able to come away with the win and we have a quick turnaround for another tough game tomorrow."
Parker Kelly led the Bears with 18 points, shooting 2-for-5 from the arc, while Ahamadou Sillah recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
St. Lawrence shot 47.3 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from the arc to the Bears' 31.0 percent from the field and 20.0 from deep.
The Scarlet and Brown improved to 2-0 on the season, while Potsdam fell to 1-3.
The Saints will travel across town to face SUNY Canton tomorrow at 4 p.m. before heading home for Thanksgiving break.
