Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Casey Scores, Saints Fall to RIT 3-1

Emma Casey had her second goal of the season, and Meredith Donahue had her second assist, but the St. Lawrence University soccer team fell to RIT 3-1 on Sandy MacAllaster field on Saturday afternoon.

The best chance in the first half came right before the halftime horn. Tyler Potter was played through with just the keeper to beat, but RIT goalkeepers Emily Sanchez came off her line and made the stop to keep the score line empty after 45 minutes.

RIT scored twice in the opening nine minutes of the second half to break the game open. Sam Halligan was in on a breakaway and slotted the ball to the lower right corner for the first goal less than four minutes into the game. It was Halligan again who doubled the lead four minutes later. She found space at the 12 where she connected on a one-timer into the back of the net.

20 minutes into the half, Donahue was dribbling towards goal, and slowed down to draw four defenders, she found an open Casey to cut the Tiger lead to one.

The Tigers kept the pressure on following the goal, and Keely Snode came up with a number of diving saves to keep the match close. With just over six minutes to play, Roberta Moger took a touch at the top of the 18 and chipped a shot over Snode to make it 3-1, which would be the final score.

Snode finished with six saves, and RIT's Sanchez had two.

RIT maintained an advantage in shots on goal (9-3) and corner kicks (5-4)

Head coach Sinead McSharry
"RIT were an exceptional team today. They were relentless and it was good for our young group to see what playing with that type of mindset looks like and feels like. We talked about doing hard things better and ultimately, it's going to take what it takes to become a team that puts those words into action. We had good moments and did well to bounced back. I was confident we would get the tie and then RIT ran away with it. Credit to them for being an iconic program."
