Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 24 Men's Soccer Defeats Skidmore 2-1; Hauck Scores First Career Goal

The nationally-ranked Saints got two first half goals from Shane Hauck and Antonio Rogliano as the No. 24-ranked St. Lawrence University men's soccer team remained unbeaten in league play with a 2-1 win over Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.

The Scarlet and Brown improved to 9-1-5 with the win and 5-0-3 in Liberty League action, while the Thoroughbreds fell to 6-3-5 and 3-2-3 in league play.

The win, combined with results around the league, places the Saints firmly atop the Liberty League standings with 18 points and have a five-point lead over Vassar and Hobart. Vassar, who has two games left against RPI and Ithaca, is the only team that can catch St. Lawrence for first place in the league. A Saints win over Hobart, or a loss/tie from the Brewers will give the Saints the regular season title.

"That was a great result on the road against a difficult team!" said head coach Mike Toshack "The boys worked incredibly hard to come away with the crucial three league points. We now turn our attention to a very important non-conference regional match versus Plattsburgh on Tuesday!"

The Scarlet and Brown hit the scoreboard first 16:33 into the first half. The Saints' leading scorer Sam Pijpers possessed the ball in the middle of the Skidmore end and fired a hard shot on goal that was turned aside by Bobby Stratts. The rebound fell onto the foot of the charging Hauck, who buried the ball into the open net for his first career goal.

St. Lawrence doubled down six minutes later with a similar goal. Kyle Graber accepted a long pass into the Thoroughbreds' box and was able to get a great shot on goal. Once again Stratts was up to the task making the first save, but this time Rogliano was in the right place at the right time to put the Saints up 2-0.

The Scarlet and Brown were able to keep the pressure on the Thoroughbreds into the second half getting four shots onto Bobby Stratts.

Late in the half, Skidmore made it a game as Ethan Kilmnick was able to score with just 1:45 left in regulation. Following the goal, Miles Levy got a quick shot on goal, but the play came back to the St. Lawrence end where Rory Millar took a corner kick for the Thoroughbreds with 12 ticks on the clock. Ben Woelfinger and the St. Lawrence defense turned away the scare to hold onto the 2-1 win.

Woelfinger and his counterpart Stratts each stopped seven shots in their respective nets.

Skidmore held a 19-11 shots advantage, but the Saints had a 9-8 edge in shots on frame. The Thoroughbreds had a huge 13-2 edge in corner kicks.

The No. 24-ranked Saints will travel back to the friendly confines of Sandy MacAllaster Field for their final two games of the regular season. On Tuesday, October 25, the Scarlet and Brown will host Plattsburgh State in a 3:00 p.m. match, then will lineup against Hobart on Saturday on Senior Day.
