Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Campbell Scores A Brace In No. 18 Men's Soccer's 3-0 Win Over Plattsburgh

Miles Levy scored the would-be game-winning goal and Ryan Campbell scored a brace, as the No. 18 St. Lawrence University men's soccer team defeated Plattsburgh State 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

The Scarlet and Brown improved to 10-1-5 with the win, while Plattsburgh finished off its regular season with a 7-7-3 mark.

"A very good performance from the team today against a very well-coached team in Plattsburgh," said head coach Mike Toshack "Everyone put in an excellent effort on both sides of the ball. What was especially encouraging is the effort and desire to keep a clean sheet today. We now turn our attention to Saturday with a game against Hobart."

The first ten minutes of the game went by way of the Cardinals, as they generated the first four shots of the game. The Saints would fend off the attack and proceed to take control of possession.

At the 14:23 mark, the Scarlet and Brown would finally break the tie. Levy had possession of the ball in the Plattsburgh zone and ran a give-and-go with Antonio Rogliano. The senior captain blasted a shot from outside the box and past Teddy Healy to claim the 1-0 lead.

Just over a minute later, Levy would earn his 10th assist of the year to help give St. Lawrence the 2-0 lead. The senior fired a long ball ahead to Campbell, who outraced both Cardinals centerbacks and put a shot home to extend the lead to 2-0.

The assist on the goal was the 10th of the season for Levy, who is the fifth Saint all-time to reach the 10-assist plateau in a season. The last player to accomplish the feat was Sam DeMello '13, who posted 10 helpers in 2011. Levy sits in a tie with DeMello and Matt Dennett '71 for third all-time in the record book and is one assist short of tying Jamal Ballantyne '02 for the second most in program history.

The first-year doubled down just over three minutes later when he cashed in a perfect pass. Michael McDougald had the ball seemingly outside of the danger zone when he let go a perfect cross across the goal mouth to the left side post where Campbell headed the ball past Healy to take the 3-0 lead.

St. Lawrence nearly extended the lead on multiple occasions in the second half as Kyle Graber, Max Mogul, Levy, and Campbell all had good looks. The Cardinals tried to bring the game within reach in the second half but could not solve Ben Woelfinger and the Saints' defense.

Woelfinger stood tall in the Saints' woodwork stopping all seven shots that found the frame. The clean sheet was the sixth of the season for the senior, who beat his career-best five shutout season last year with the washout. Healy stopped six of nine shots in the Plattsburgh goal.

The Cardinals, who were chasing the play for most of the game had a 19-13 edge in shots, but put just seven shots on frame, while the Saints generated 10 shots on goal. Plattsburgh had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks in the game.

The Scarlet and Brown, who sit at the top of the table in the Liberty League with 18 have just one game left on their regular season schedule. The Saints will be back in action on Saturday, as they play host to Hobart College on Senior Day at Sandy MacAllaster Field. St. Lawrence can win the regular season title as early as tomorrow with a Vassar loss/tie against RPI.
