No. 12/13 Ithaca Shuts Down Saints on the Road

The nationally ranked No. 12/13 Ithaca Bombers used a big third quarter and scored two defensive touchdowns to shutout the St. Lawrence University football team 40-0 in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon in Ithaca, N.Y.

Victor Gamberoni led the Saints' defensive unit with nine tackles and one tackle for the loss, while Joseph O'Neil and Ryan Surhoff both recorded seven tackles. Surhoff also recorded a tackle for the loss, while Ben Munn forced a fumble and Daniel George, Grady Harrington and Bennett Cheer all finished with one pass breakup.

Daniel Greene, Cameron Giunta and Cole Salyards all recorded a reception, while Saints' quarterback Daniel Lawther ran for 33 yards.

Ithaca quarterback A.J. Wingfield opened scoring at 6:10 of the first quarter after connecting with Julien Deumaga with a five-yard pass to take a 6-0 lead.

Most of the second quarter was a battle of the defense, as the only score came from a 24-yard Bomber field goal giving Ithaca a 9-0 lead at the break.

The Bombers extended their lead in the third quarter as Jake Connelly returned a 43-yard interception, Nicholas Bahamonde kicked a 31-yard field goal and Tommy Moran also returned a 43-yard interception to lead 33-0 heading into the final frame.

Jon Crowley finished of a 59-yard run with a six-yard catch from Max Perry and Bahamonde's kick was good to make the final 40-0.

Wingfield threw 22-for-35 for 249 yards and recorded two touchdowns, while Perry went 3-for-6 for 31 yards and one touchdown. Jalen Leonard-Osborne led the Bombers' ground game with 93 yards on 11 attempts. Michael Anderson made eight catches for a team-best 122 yards and one touchdown.

St. Lawrence fell to 2-4 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, while Ithaca improved 6-0 and 3-0, respectively.

The Saints will return to Leckonby Stadium to host Hobart on Saturday, October 22 at 1 p.m.
