Bard sophomore Elliot Harris hit a corner 3-pointer with under five seconds to go, which gave the Raptors the 74-71 victory over the St. Lawrence men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Burkman Gymnasium.
The teams traded buckets throughout the game, and in the last six minutes the scored was tied on four separate occasions, the last being at 71 apiece following a pair of
Trent Adamson free-throws with 31 seconds left.
With five seconds to play, Bard's Tyler Bruns inbounded the ball to Harris, who drained a corner 3-pointer with three seconds on the clock to put Bard up by three.
Trey Syroka dribbled the ball two thirds of the way down the court and got a good shot off, but the ball bounced off the rim three times before it fell down the wrong side of the cylinder and Bard took the win 74-71.
"We came out flat and took a step backwards tonight," said head coach
Chris Downs. "The team talked after the game and we all realize we need to improve our ability to play and practice more consistently if we are going to find success moving forward."
Trent Adamson had 18 to lead the Saints, and
Gavin Macaulay hit four shots from deep to end up with a dozen.
Luke Hicks contributed ten.
Harris led Bard with 18, including four 3-pointers. Bruns added a baker's dozen.
The teams paired were as equal in the boxscore as they were on the court. Bard had 28 rebounds to St. Lawrence's 27. Bard had 14 turnovers to St. Lawrence's 13. Each team shot just under 49-percent from the floor. The biggest differences came in Bard knocking down nine more 3-pointers, and St. Lawrence having 18 more points from the free throw line.
