Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Chapleau Scores His Third Goal; Skating Saints Fall 4-1

First-year defenseman Philippe Chapleau netted his third goal of the season, but it was not enough as the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team fell 4-1 to 20th-ranked Harvard on Friday night at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center in Boston, Mass.

St. Lawrence moved to 5-12-4 with the loss and 3-6-2 in ECAC play, while the Crimson improved to 9-5-1 and 7-3-1 in conference play.

Harvard stormed out of the gates in the first period outshooting the Saints 12-4 before scoring their first goal of the game. At the 12:10 mark of the first Zakary Karpa got the Crimson on the board with his second goal of the year. Karpa was assisted by Casey Dornbach and Matthew Coronato. Harvard would take the 2-0 lead one minute and 16 seconds later off a goal from John Farinacci. Jack Bar would earn an assist on the tally.

The Crimson took a three-goal lead with a goal from Alex Laferriere eight minutes and 48 seconds into the middle frame. Alex Gaffney and Farinacci tallied helpers on the goal.

After being outshot 18-4 in the opening period, the Skating Saints put 16 shots on goal in the second to Harvard's 10. The persistence finally paid off as the Saints got on the board with a goal with two minutes and 18 seconds remaining in the period.

The scoring play started with a Harvard turnover caused by Chapleau in the neutral zone. The puck then came to Luke Erickson, who dished a pass over to Kaden Pickering. The senior captain moved the puck laterally to Ty Naaykens, who was streaking into the Harvard zone. Naaykens tried to get a shot on goal but was turned away by a Crimson defender. The play caught Mitchell Gibson off guard and out of position as Chapleau backhanded a loose puck into the unmanned net to make it a 3-1 game.

Pickering eanred his sixth assist on the play while Naaykens tallied his second.

Harvard regained the three-goal lead just under seven minutes into the third with another Laferriere goal. Just like his first goal, his second was assisted by Gaffney and Farinacci.

The Scarlet and Brown once again were able to outshoot Harvard in the third period by an 11-8 margin, but were unable to secure another goal.

Emil Zetterquist tallied 32 saves in his first game action since New Year's Day. Gisbon finished with 30 saves in the win.

Neither team was able to make much headway in the special team's game as St. Lawrence went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Harvard went 0-for-2.

The Skating Saints will be back in action tomorrow at Thompson Arena to take on Dartmouth College at 7:00 p.m. from Hanover, N.H.
