Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Saints Start New Year with 60-57 Victory Over Elmira

The St. Lawrence men's basketball team defeated the Soaring Eagles of Elmira in Burkman Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon to improve to 7-1 and a perfect 3-0 at home.

The Saints had a season high 14 steals which led to 18 fast break points. Elmira dominated the boards, coming down with 47 rebounds, including 19 offensive, while limiting St. Lawrence to just 25.

With just under a minute to play, Luke Hicks found Trent Adamson in the paint who put the Saints up by two. On the next play Andy Downs stole the ball and was fouled on a layup attempt. He sunk both to give the Saints a 56-52 lead.

The Saints employed a full court press, and the pressure forced an errant Elmira inbound pass to give St. Lawrence back the ball. The Saints shot 4-6 from the line in the final 31 seconds to seal the game.

"Elmira played good defense today, we had a hard time figuring out their zone" said head coach Chris Downs.

Will Engelhardt led the offense with 20 points and five 3-pointers, and came down with seven rebounds. Adamson scored 10 points and had 5 blocks, and Miles Davis scored 10.

Harry Ravitz led the Soaring Eagles with 11 points, including a perfect 3-3 from deep in the second half. Rashaad Nurse and David Kruis also reached double figures, with 10 points apiece.
