Despite shooting over 48-percent from the field, the St. Lawrence men's basketball team fell to Oswego State on Monday afternoon for their second loss of the season.
Trent Adamson and
Will Engelhardt accounted for 41 of the Saints points. Adamson scored 21 and has scored 20 or more four times this season. Englehardt reached 20, and has scored double digits in all nine games.
Four and a half minutes into the first half a Devin Green layup would give the Lakers a 9-8 lead and started a 10-point run. A few minutes later
Trey Syroka took it to the hole and cut the lead to four, but that's as close as the Saints would come for the rest of the game. Oswego led 38-26 at half.
As the second half got under way the Lakers connected from deep on three straight possessions to extend the lead to 20. The Saints responded with an 11-point run and brought the game back to single digits at 51-42. Oswego answered with seven straight to extend their lead to a comfortable 16 points. The rest of the game the teams exchanged blows with neither able to get much of a run going, and as time expired the scoreboard read 74-60 in Oswego's favor.
"Oswego is a very good team," said head coach
Chris Downs. "Physical, they can shoot, and Coach Leone is one of the best in the region. We will take some things from this game that will help us moving forward."
Oswego improved to 10-1, and have now defeated four Liberty League teams, knocking off RPI, Clarkson, and Hobart.
Four Lakers ended the game in double figures, led by Green's 20 point, eight rebound, six assist, and five steal well rounded performance.
Oswego dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Saints by 16, and had 18 offensive rebounds to extend their possessions compared to the Saints' seven.
