Red Hot Shooting Lifts Saints Over Clarkson

The St. Lawrence men's basketball team stopped a three-game skid with a decisive 78-52 win over Clarkson on Tuesday night in Potsdam, N.Y.

The Saints used an 18-3 run midway through the first half to take a 26-11 lead. The Saints closed the half with another run, scoring 12 of the final 14 points to go into the break up 40-20. They shot 16 of 25 from the floor for a field goal percentage of 64. They held the Golden Knights to shoot 26.7-percent from the floor.

The Saints came out in the second half and kept it rolling. After two scoreless minutes, St. Lawrence scored eight straight including Trent Adamson's first dunk of the night, a two handed throw down off a good find from Trey Syroka. His second came a few minutes later when he and Will Englehardt played a little two-man game, Adamson set a high pick for Englehardt, who dropped a perfect bounce pass to Adamson, who slammed it home this time with one hand.

With just over five minutes to play, Aiden Macaulay hit a 3-pointer to put the Saints up by 32 points, their biggest lead of the night, at 75-43. St. Lawrence led by over 20 for the whole second half, and the final score read 78-52.

"For maybe the first time this season, we played well on both ends of the floor," said head coach Chris Downs. "We need to practice well Wednesday and begin to build some consistency."

Trent Adamson led all players in points and rebounds with 18 and seven. Engelhardt shot 5-for-6 from the field, 3-for-3 from deep, and 2-for-2 from the line on his way to 15. Jack Scotnicki and Carter Storey each had a pair of threes from off the bench. 11 Saints showed up in the scoring column.

Though the Saints cooled off a little in the second half, they still shot over 48-percent from the field, to give them a game average of 55.8-percent, their best of the season. They also hit a season-high 10 shots from deep on 50-percent shooting.

The Saints, who have struggled on the boards all season, out rebounded the Knights 35-26.
