The St. Lawrence men's basketball team fell to 24th-ranked RPI in a conference match-up in Canton, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon.
Carter Storey scored a career-high 10 points and had three rebounds off the bench to lead the Saints in scoring.
Gavin Macaulay had the first four points for the Saints, but the Engineers jumped out to an 11-6 lead. The Saints missed their first seven 3-point attempts, until
Will Engelhardt connected with under two minutes to play in the half to cut the RPI lead to 27-19. The Engineers closed the first half scoring five straight and went into halftime up 32-19.
Macaulay opened the second half scoring as well, and paired with a
Luke Hicks 3-pointer the Saints cut the lead to eight. RPI responded with seven straight to extend their lead to 15. The Saints would never get it back to within single digits. After leading by as many as 23 with seven and a half minutes to go, the Engineers held on to win 59-41 to stay perfect in league play.
"We continue to struggle on the offensive end," said head coach
Chris Downs. "We will need to work hard collectively to improve prior to Clarkson on Tuesday night."
RPI scored 30 points off of those turnovers and
Trey Syroka had a season-high four steals, as the Saints forced 15 turnovers.
St. Lawrence shot 35.6-percent from the floor, 22.2-percent from deep, and five of nine from the free throw line. The Engineers hit 41.1-percent of their field goals, 25-percent from deep, and nine of 13 from the charity stripe.
