The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team fell to Ithaca 56-40 in Liberty League play on Friday evening in Canton, N.Y.
The Saints came out hot, jumping to 9-4 lead two minutes into the game. Brothers
Aiden Macaulay and
Gavin Macaulay each hit a 3-pointer during that early run. Unfortunately, the Saints would go zero for 12 from deep for the rest of the game.Â
The teams headed into halftime tied, 25-25.
The Bombers opened the second half scoring 11 of the first 13 points to jump out to a nine-point lead at 36-27. St. Lawrence was never able to get the gap closer to six points, and were outscored 31-15 in the second half. The final score was 56-40.
"Ithaca played very well defensively," said head coach
Chris Downs. "It's hard to win games if you score 15 points in the second half."
Jack Stern led all scorers with 17 off of the bench for Ithaca. He also grabbed a team high eight rebounds in his 20 minutes.
Trent Adamson led the Saints with 14 points and eight rebounds. The team came down with 30 boards on the night, Ithaca secured 40.
Despite shooting over 52-percent from the floor in the first half, the 25-percent second half performance brought the St. Lawrence game average to 37.8-percent. Ithaca shot 36.1-percent from the floor on 16 more shot attempts than the Saints.
29 of the Bombers points came off of turnovers, and they had 19 second chance points. The Saints were limited to just six of each.
